The work of our chapter is organized into a number of committees and working groups, each of which has its own areas of responsibility and annual charges. If you’d like to join or learn more about any of these groups, feel free to reach out to their respective chairs or send us a message at iubaaup@iu.edu.
Executive Committee, 2025-2026
The Executive Committee serves as the operational backbone of the AAUP chapter, maintaining a dynamic presence on campus and acting as the primary point of contact for faculty members seeking assistance with professional concerns. Beyond administrative duties, the Executive Committee functions as both advocate and advisor, providing direct support to individual faculty members while strategically positioning the chapter to address institutional issues. The committee’s ongoing recruitment efforts and member retention focus ensure the chapter maintains its voice and relevance in campus governance and faculty affairs.

Membership Committee
The Membership Committee works to grow the membership of the chapter through both one-on-one organizing and broader outreach to potential members. Building on several years of growth, we are hoping to increase the size of our chapter even more significantly this year. Meetings occur once every two weeks for up to an hour and committee members engage in organizing work between them. The committee’s work benefits from many people helping to recruit new members. Thus, all current members of the AAUP chapter willing to reach out to potential new members are invited to join.

Committee Z (Economics of the Faculty)
Committee Z pursues the AAUP mission of advocating for the economic well-being of academic workers at IUB. Our work includes such efforts as:
- Analyzing and reporting on IUB budget models and financial policies;
- Researching and reporting on IUB salaries relative to comparator institutions;
- Researching and reporting on IUB salaries internally across schools, departments, and ranks;
- Tracking publicly available fiscal information to challenge (or validate) the economic claims of the administration.
We aim to bring the economics of our institution into the daylight to help faculty make informed decisions free of the threat of secretive financial pretexts.

Climate & Climate Survey Working Group
The Climate & Climate Survey Working Group is working to develop a comprehensive and insightful campus climate survey for Indiana University Bloomington. This initiative stems from a commitment made by the Board of Trustees following votes of no confidence, with the aim of fostering a more inclusive and supportive environment for all members of our university community. The committee is focused on creating a survey that accurately captures the diverse experiences and perceptions of students, faculty, and staff, providing valuable data to inform future actions and improvements on campus.

Outreach & Engagement
The Outreach and Engagement Committee works to inform faculty and graduate students about critical issues impacting higher education, both here at IUB and across the nation, while highlighting the AAUP’s vital role in championing academic freedom, shared governance, and the economic well-being of all who teach and conduct research. The goal of this committee is to build a stronger sense of solidarity among faculty, encouraging active participation in chapter events and advocacy efforts, and ultimately expanding our membership (in conjunction with the Membership Committee) to create a more powerful collective voice for academic excellence and fairness on campus. Outreach & Engagement works closely with Communications, but is primarily focused on content creation and messaging that is distributed across social media, email, the website, and through physical media such as flyers.
