AAUP Forum on SB 202 and Academic Freedom in Indiana
Thursday, 2/15/24, 5:30, Zoom

Indiana State Conference of the American Association of University Professors (ICAAUP)
Colleagues, Senate Bill SB-202, currently moving rapidly through the Indiana legislature, is
a significant attack on tenure and academic freedom at all public universities in Indiana.
See the story from Indiana Public Media, Senate bill could change tenure dramatically.
Among other harmful things, it will impose mandatory post-tenure review on all faculty.
The threat to academic freedom and to the standing of Hoosier higher education is real,
and imminent.

The Ball State chapter of the AAUP’s Statement on Indiana SB 202 offers more detail on the
dangers of the bill and why the AAUP strongly opposes it. The chapters at Purdue-West
Lafayette and IU-Bloomington have issued a joint statement in opposition. The ICAAUP
website is tracking actions and statements from chapters, faculty senates, and some
university presidents.

The ICAAUP will host a virtual statewide discussion of SB 202 from 5:30-6:30 this coming
Thursday, featuring State Senator Shelli Yoder and State Representative Matt Pierce. both
of whom are also faculty.

This is a public event, so feel free to share this announcement widely. However, everyone
must register to obtain the Zoom link on Thursday.
