As elected leaders of an organization on the IUB campus that continues to uphold academic
freedom and shared governance as its basic mission;

As an organization on the IUB campus that embraces the mission to uphold professional values
and standards and promote the economic security for faculty in higher education;

We condemn the voluntary elimination, suspension, or merger of 249 degree programs across the
IU system by the IU administration.

We condemn the disregard by the upper administration of the views and expertise of chairs, elected
faculty councils, elected policy committees, and individual faculty in making these cuts, which will
have profound negative consequences well beyond the individual units affected.

We condemn the continued lack of transparency in communicating with the faculty any details of
these voluntary cuts.

We condemn the complete disregard by the upper administration for the impact these cuts are
already having on our students and alumni.

We condemn the abandonment of the mission of our university to enable students to become well-
rounded citizens, with skills that prepare them for career paths, as well as living in an increasingly complex world.

We demand that the Indiana University administration immediately rescind the volunteered list of
249 programs for elimination, suspension, or merger, until such time as each affected department
or program can deliberate and vote on the future of its degrees and that Indiana University administration openly urge the Indiana state government to rescind these new legal requirements
that were added to the budget bill with little opportunity for public input.
