Town Hall Calling for Financial Transparency, Accountability, and Investment by the IU Administration
Friday, October 23 | 3-5pm | Hodge Hall (Room 2038), Kelley School of Business & Virtual

The Indiana University Bloomington (IUB) chapter of the AAUP will host a public Town Hall on October 23, 2026, from 3:00-5:00 p.m. in the Kelley School of Business (Hodge Hall), Room 2038, to discuss an independent financial analysis of the university and to call for action by the IU administration. For those preferring to attend remotely, the Zoom link is https://iu.zoom.us/j/89459086967

The report, conducted by higher education finance expert Howard Bunsis and commissioned by the IUB AAUP, questions the administration’s rationale for recent budget cuts. Despite IU’s AAA bond rating, growing financial reserves, record enrollment, and strong tuition revenue, the university has implemented program eliminations, hiring restraints, benefit reductions, and cuts to academic support services.

Based on these findings, AAUP argues that the university has sufficient funds and should increase financial transparency, accountability, and investment in IU’s core academic mission to support faculty, staff, graduate students, and overall student success. The chapter also urges stronger shared governance and greater faculty involvement in shaping institutional financial priorities. Members of the university community and the press are encouraged to attend, share their experiences, and join the discussion about aligning IU’s spending decisions with its commitment to academic excellence.
