IUB AAUP All-Faculty Spring Town Hall
Friday, April 17 | 2:00-4:00PM | Ballantine 310
Join IUB-AAUP for a public discussion on protecting academic freedom and defending our rights to teach and conduct research free from political interference and attack. This town hall will bring together faculty, students, and campus leaders to address some of the most urgent issues facing Indiana University and higher education right now.
The event will feature a series of speakers addressing attacks on international scholars, the growing vulnerability of scientists, the defunding of arts and humanities, faculty salaries, student solidarity, and the future of faculty governance. Together, these conversations will help clarify what is at stake and how faculty can respond collectively.
Scheduled speakers include:
- Roger Innes on IU’s abusive treatment of international scholars
- Michael Hamburger on the vulnerabilities faced by IU scientists
- Alison Calhoun on the College’s defunding of arts and humanities
- Alexa Avellaneda and Anna Nguyen Loeb on building solidarity with IU Student Government
- Ben Robinson on shrinking faculty salaries amid IU’s fiscal health
- Amr Sabry on BFC leadership in the next two years
This town hall is an opportunity to hear timely analysis, connect these issues across constituencies, and strengthen our collective response to escalating political and administrative pressures on the university.
The event will be held in Ballantine 310 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM on Friday, April 17. A livestream will also be available on the IUB-AAUP Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/iubaaup
Faculty, campus workers, students, and community members are encouraged to attend and join the conversation.
